Merton Scientific Society, Putney Music,West Wimbledon Society, West Wimbledon Opera Club, Wimbledon Decorative & Fine Arts Society(Widfas) all hold regular meetings; Raynes Park & Wimbledon Public Libraries offer monthly adult reading and drama discussion groups; Lantern Arts Centre is a performance venue which in addition runs classes for children and adults and offers live entertainment every Friday night in the Cafe Studio; Putney Arts Theatre, in addition to the performances and exhibitions listed below, runs courses and hold auditions from time to time.

Merton U3A (University of the Third Age) offers over 50 study and activity groups as well as visits, talks,and study days in subjects ranging from the Arts, Music, Languages and Bridge, to Gardening, Table Tennis and Walking. New members are warmly welcomed, as well as suggestions for setting up new groups. New programme for 2010/11 begins in September. SPECIAL WIMBLEDON NOTES
2010 promises to be even more musical than last year with events already planned well into the year by most of our regular performers, and some new ones.
In particular The Wimbledon Music Festival is to build on its very successful launch last November and will expand to 18 events over 15 days embracing the last three weekends of November. The 2010 Festival offers another galaxy of great international artists performing great music. Programme details are listed in the Diary below and on www.wimbledonmusicfestival.co.uk .
The Academy Choir and Orchestra are performing their November concert to launch the Wimbledon Music Festival. Details below or at www.academychoirwimbledon.co.uk
Jigsaw Players - the group of very talented young professional chamber music players, will continue their series of concerts at Christ Church, SW20 with 6 performances between September 2010 and June 2011 -details in Diary below or at www.jigsawplayers.com
Putney Music will recommence its fortnightly Monday meetings with some very prestigious speakers in the |Autumn. Details below when available or at www.putneymusic.org.uk
St John's Church Wimbledon will recommence the Friday Lunch Club 45 minutes before the monthly Friday Lunchtime Recitals.(usually the last Friday of the month) on September 24. Audience members are invited to bring their own sandwiches to have with coffee and home made cakes provided by the church,before the recital which lasts about one hour. Also, anyone requiring transport can telephone 020 8946 2854 or 020 8946 7312. Dates listed in the Diary below.
Also at St John's Church there will be, in addition to the several Academy Choir concerts, the usual regular monthly performances by Music by the Commons, and other monthly recitals by professional soloists and ensembles from September, Details below when available.
Sunday Evening Music Among Friends, now in its 14th year, is continuing its monthly Sunday evening chamber concerts throughout the Summer at the Colour House Theatre, Merton Abbey Mills(usually the last Sunday of the month).
